The Treasury workshop is based on the simple ethos that everything has potential and nothing is trash. Participants are invited to bring along broken or un-loved jewellery and found objects, to fix or re-create into something new and unique.

It is an opportunity to re-connect with the idea of community; to exchange skills, materials, thoughts and inspiration. Participants will sit around the table with tattered jewellery piled high and leave at the end of the day with a bundle of ‘new’ jewellery and a bunch of new friends.

The Treasury is about sustainable fashion – moving away from ‘throw-away culture’ and leading back towards the way we used to live;

where if something broke, you fixed it.

Lucky Charm. Making Good Fortune Happen, is an online auction fundraiser coordinated by Melbourne based jeweler, Natalia Milosz-Piekarska, in order to raise much needed funds in support of the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Rescue services.

In light of the recent bout of devastating natural disasters that have taken place around the world, in particular, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, it became apparent that humanitarian charities such as the Red Cross have become increasingly stretched for funds and resources which allow them to respond quickly and effectively in critical times.

The Lucky Charm fundraiser will see a cornucopia of amazing contemporary jewellery works auctioned off online as a means to show support and help raise much needed funds for the Red Cross -Australia.

Artist Statement

My starting point is a delight in the natural world, particularly in landscape - in the folds and mounds of earth that echo the sensual forms of the body, the colours, the light, shade and the texture and relationship between the earth itself and the vegetation that cloaks, frames and grows out of it.

This delight is tempered by an awareness of the degree to which human activity impacts on the land - shaping, changing and permanently modifying the natural forms. These processes both indelibly scar and transform it creating an, often paradoxical, beauty.

I am interested in exploring through my work the way in which we change the landscape. As someone who works with metal I feel it is important to acknowledge the impact the methods of extracting metal have on the land.

I’m interested in working with largely recycled, base metals because they are very familiar yet their idiosyncratic beauty is often overlooked. I’m drawn to galvanised iron as a material, in particular, because it is such an eloquent, and familiar, metaphor for the Australian light and landscape. It is an uncompromising material, softened and made sparkling by the crystalline surface of its zinc coating. Working with zinc on its own is a delight with its subtle colour and the softness of the metal.

I find working in a way that minimises the introduction of other materials is very satisfying as it maintains the integrity of the material– so wherever possible the fittings are cut out of the metal and is slotted together rather than being soldered.

Orchis Morio, literally ‘green winged orchid’ in Latin, was inspired by a passion for the fantastical found in the everyday.

Fabric designs are the product of hand drawn, digital and screen-printing processes. The fluidity is achieved by manipulating organic, textured and botanical forms. Always seeking to abstract patterns from the natural, and never shying from extravagance.

All fabrics are professionally screenprinted with solvent free inks onto organic basecloths.
